ON-SCREEN FASHION ICONS
Hey there, welcome back! If you’re always on the lookout for fashion inspiration, watching shows with fashionable characters is a pleasure. Grab some popcorn and let’s jump in!
One of my
favourite things is watching a new show and finding a character who is without
a doubt, a true fashionista. I am a sucker for a fashionable cast and most of
the shows I watch tend to have at least one character who is an absolute diva. I
have so many shows that’d recommend watching just for the style but for the
sake of this post not being ten pages long, I’m going to stick to four
characters, from shows that are fairly recent.
First up
is Moira Rose from Schitt’s Creek. A true diva, Moira’s style is sophisticated
and at the extreme end of high fashion. With her layers of jewellery, precious
wigs and classic colour palate, she is sure to catch your eye. The show is
about a family that loses all their wealth and is forced to move to a small town
(thank god for us, they get to keep their expensive clothes). The styling of
the characters in the show was given the utmost importance and honestly, the
whole of the Rose family has impeccable style and I had to resist showcasing all
of them in this post.
I will say
this though- if you’re not used to seeing people sporting outfits that are this
luxurious (and most of us aren't), it might seem irregular at first but if you
have an eye for beauty you’ll soon realise that each of Moira’s outfits is a
true style statement. And of course, having Katherine O’Hara breathe life into
these looks is an added bonus!
Up next is
another committed fashionista, Dr. Mindy Lahiri from The Mindy Project. Mindy’s
style is fun and colourful and unlike any other I have seen on television (especially
on a woman of Indian ethnicity who is a doctor in New York). It is
certainly bolder than most, and probably wouldn’t be my preferred style, but
just because someone’s fashion sense is different than yours doesn’t mean they
don’t have good fashion sense. Lots of colour and patterns, quirky earrings and
gorgeous coats are musts in Mindy’s wardrobe (a bit of glitter doesn’t hurt
either!).
I have
watched numerous shows, but I am yet to meet a character with looks as colourful
and confident as Mindy’s!
I’ve tried
my best to select characters from shows in this post, but I’d
be leaving out some of the most fashionable people I’ve seen if I didn’t include
Tan France and Alexa Chung. The two are hosts for the Netflix show, Next in
Fashion, which is (you guessed it), a reality T.V. show where upcoming
designers compete against each other. I highly recommend watching this show if
you’re a bit of a fashion nerd because every episode has at least one look that you’ll love.
The pair
has faultless taste and will leave you in constant admiration. Tan France has one of the most gorgeous styles I’ve ever seen and Alexa
Chung is effortlessly striking. I’m not even ashamed to admit I watched the entire
show in a couple of days, simply because I couldn’t wait to see what they’d be
wearing in the next episode.
Lastly, I
have the stunning Masaba from the recent show, Masaba Masaba. I definitely took
time to warm up to the show but no one can deny that Masaba looks polished in
every shot. The fact that she owns and runs her own luxury design label will
come as no surprise to anyone who watches her in the show. Her style is elegant
and every outfit is perfectly carried.
Flattering
silhouettes, flawless accessorizing and beautiful fabrics are what make Masaba’s
style so attractive. The show also includes other characters styled fashionably
as a lot of it involves the fashion industry that Masaba comes from.
As an avid
series watcher, and an enthusiastic receiver of fashion inspiration, I love all
these shows for introducing me to different styles. I truly believe fashion is
a skill that must be learnt and polished every day, and watching fashionable
characters is a great way to acquire good taste! Next time you’re watching something,
keep an eye out for that one character whose outfits put the others to shame
and it’ll make your viewing experience a hundred times more enjoyable.
Till next
time, have fun dressing up!💜
