FIVE STEPS TO REBUILD YOUR WARDROBE!
Hey there, welcome back! Are you feeling out of sync with your current wardrobe? Or are you just desperate for change and have decided to start with your clothing? Whatever the reason, this post will be the only guide you’ll need to successfully rebuild your wardrobe. Grab a pen to make some notes and let’s jump in!
As someone
who constantly dreams about changing up her wardrobe, I have a handful of tips
on how to do so in the most sustainable way. I'm breaking this one down into
steps to make it an easy list to tick off!
One
ANALYIZE
THE CURRENT SITUATION
Go through what you already own! Get all your clothes out and work through the mess, making a pile of your most worn and least worn clothing respectively. Next, take a step back and look at your lifestyle, and what kind of clothes would fit it best. Do you work at a 9 to 5 job? Are you a student who has to follow a dress code? Do you go out for fun a lot? Do you go to the gym? Make a list of the kinds of clothes you’d need accordingly.
Use the given list of questions to get
a proper idea of what you like:
What are the silhouettes you reach for often?
What style of shoes do you wear every day?
How much do you accessorize?
Which accessories are your favorites?
What are trends you’d like to try?
How much can you afford to spend?
Two
FIND
INSPIRATION
If you’re
here, then you’re either full of inspiration for a new wardrobe and ready to
get STARTED or you have no idea where to start. When you don’t have any
inspiration, the best thing to do is search for some. Watch videos, look up online
stores to see what they have, use Pinterest, talk to that one friend who has
impeccable fashion taste, do as much searching as you need till you feel an
urge to really commit to redoing your clothing.
Three
SIZING
IS EVERTHING
Wearing
clothing that is the right size can make or break your outfit. Every single
body type has clothes that are flattering and when you wear those silhouettes ,
confidence is easy to acquire. I would recommend trying on clothes a size
bigger and a size smaller than your current size and see which one looks best
and feels most comfortable.
Four
MAKE A FINAL LIST
This is
the list to conquer all lists, the last one you’ll make in this whole process. Write
down each item of clothing you’re ready to invest in and be as detailed as you can
be. If you can afford to get yourself a stylist then go for it, it will definitely
make the whole process less overwhelming.
TIME TO
BUY!
Look up
various sites and brands, walk into as many stores as possible before settling
on a piece. My biggest tip here would be to not rush into this. Rebuilding your
wardrobe is tedious but it pays off only when you are intentional and mindful
of the entire process. Invest a few pieces over time, adding to your original wardrobe
bit by bit. This helps in saving money and allows you to discard the
clothing in your ‘least worn’ pile slowly (I get very attached to clothing and
discarding things slowly instead of all at once makes the process much easier).
Also, when you realize how good you look and feel in your new clothes that are
good quality and fit right, you’ll automatically want to make space in your wardrobe
for more rather than hang on to pieces that don’t spark joy.
Changing a huge portion of your daily life- your wardrobe- can seem like a daunting task. And it is. You cannot possibly rebuild it overnight and accepting that is the best way to start the journey of creating a long term wardrobe for yourself that you will genuinely love! Remember, the journey is always more exciting than the destination.
Till next
time, have fun dressing up!💜
